Energy Storage Coalition Comment on the U.S. Department of Energy Speed to Power Initiative

The ESC commends the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for actively evaluating a broad range of measures to enable the interconnection of large loads through its Speed to Power Request for Information (RFI). The Coalition provides recommendations on how the DOE can advance policies that enhance flexibility, mitigate grid impact as demand grows, and ultimately stabilize electricity prices for all consumers. Energy storage is a unique resource and tool for quickly advancing all of these objectives.

The DOE’s actions can support and maximize America’s energy resources by rapidly adding dispatchable and flexible capacity to the grid, enabling new large loads to come online and advance vital industries. The ESC offers a range of policy considerations and also provides comments on DOE questions. Additionally, this comment provides indicative case studies of the range of beneficial impacts that energy storage is having today.
